DDI2 versus DDI3
DDI has currently two major versions: 2 and 3. Since MIXED is using DDI as an intermediate format for the metadata present in statistical datafiles, the question arises: which is more suitable to adopt. On the one hand: a new version seems to be better than an older version. On the other hand: DDI 3 contains many constructs that are not relevant for long term preservation. Michiel de Brieder has written a position paper to discuss this matter.
